In Romans 5: 3-5 God tells us that “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance , character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Suffering Produces Endurance
My sister-in-law, Kathy was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer 9 months ago. Kathy was full of life, her and her husband, Harold always going fishing, boating, and going on cruises. Kathy had a thrift store and she loved reaching out to her community and helping others.
Kathy was a shining God’s light unto others wherever she went, whatever she did.
That day at the doctor’s office Kathy knew she was going to be suffering in the months ahead.
Endurance Produced Character
As the months progressed Kathy’s endurance of her suffering with her treatments, doctors, every day routines, decisions that had to be made , Kathy continued to keep her faith in God and her focus on His word. Were there times she questioned God? Yes But she always went to God in prayer for strength, endurance and peace. Kathy had her husband by her side helping her , encouraging her , praying with her to stay strong in their faith.
Character Produces Hope because we know we are Loved by God
In Kathy’s last weeks she knew she was dying, but she still continued to give praises to God knowing that Jesus is the resurrection and life. Kathy passed away this past May, Kathy’s Husband, Harold knew his wife was at peace and that God had given him the strength and peace to let her go.
Kathy continued to shine God’s Glory to the End!!!
John 11:25 Jesus is the resurrection and life. Though we die, we shall live.

I pray right now the Lord’s comfort surrounds all those she left until she is seen again in heaven! I love how you pointed our how her life revealed the depths of that verse. Very beautiful.
